Delirium: An overview of the causes, treatments and how YOU can help! (see notes from the webinar on Delirium in latest Newsletter)

Dr. Christina Reppas-Rindlisbacher, geriatrician from Mount Sinai and the University Health Network, and currently being mentored by Dr. Paula Rochon at Women’s College Hospital, spoke about delirium in February. A common but serious condition, delirium affects older adults and results in a sudden change in thinking. These effects are most seen in changes to a person’s memory, reasoning, ability to stay alert and understanding of time and place. In this webinar, Dr. Reppas-Rindlisbacher highlighted the causes, treatments and long-term impacts of delirium.

Supporting Your Neighbours: Strategies for helping older adults experiencing social isolation

Dana Zummach, project manager from Schlegel-UW Research Institute for Aging (RIA), spoke about a community conversation guide designed to help family, friends and community members understand and recognize the signs of social isolation. This comprehensive guide is the result of an RTOERO Foundation donor-funded grant, made possible by the generosity of RTOERO members. In this webinar, Dana provided an overview of social isolation, while providing tips and strategies for how to identify and help older adults who may be experiencing social isolation.
